6 Tips To Set Up Your Own Lash Business

  1. Research the lash industry - Before you start your lash business, it’s important to do your research. Learn about the different types of lash extensions, think specifically about which services you want to be able to offer, who are your target customers? Research the products needed for application and removal, the equipment to allow you to set up and most importantly the local regulations, qualifications and insurance required for you to work in the lash industry.

  2. Create a business plan - When you’re ready to move forward with your business, create a business plan. This plan should include your mission statement, target audience, pricing structure, and a marketing plan. Top Tip - Do not just look at what others are charging in your area and go slightly lower. Cost up everything specifically for the services you will be offering, this is to make sure you are making a profit and not working for nothing (I will write a more detailed blog post just on this).

  3. Obtain the necessary training and certifications - Choose an accredited trainer, someone who is very experienced and produces excellent quality lashes themselves. A course that requires case studies before you pass and provides ongoing support. Don't skimp on this, a one day course may seem good because it is cheap but if all you have done is one set of lashes on a mannequin head and you recieve your certificate that day, how prepared and confident will you really be to actually apply lashes on a human being, that moves, talks, blinks?

  4. Depending on where you live, you may need to obtain a business license, council approval, or other certifications in order to legally provide lash services. Contact your local council and ask. Get responses in writing.

  5. Invest in quality lash products and equipment - Investing in high quality lash products and equipment is essential to the success of your business. Investing in quality supplies will ensure that your clients get the best results.

  6. Promote your business - Don’t be afraid to promote your business. Create a website, join Google My Business (I get a lot of clients from this), join local beauty networks/groups online, and use social media to promote your business. Make sure you post relevant, engaging content consistently. Do a leaflet drop in your local area.

I hope this helps you if you are considering setting up your own lash business. I have been running my business for almost 8 years and these are definitely things I wish I had known sooner.
