Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is it safe?

A. This treatment is extremely safe when performed by an properly trained professional. There is also no downtime with this procedure.

Q. Is there proof that this works?

A. Clinical studies, scientific and medical research, independent testing and patient testimonials exist to prove the effectiveness of light therapy. Research conducted by NASA’s space programme has proven that near infrared LED light therapy promotes wound healing and human tissue growth.

Q. Is the process abrasive or painful?
A. No. It is a gentle, painless, safe, non-invasive and non-abrasive treatment.

Q. Are LEDs better than lasers?
A. Results with LEDs are not as impressive but we are not using aggressive ablative treatments such as lasers. LED treatments can be very effective when used correctly.

Q. How does a LED facial feel?
A. The beauty of this treatment is that it is totally pain-free and completely safe.
It stimulates the natural functions of your skin cells without causing damage. Therefore there is no downtime or risk of unwanted side effects.

Q. Why are the lights different colours?

A. The wavelength (light colour) selected by your therapist will be decided upon depending on the skin condition being treated or the improvements you want to see. The wavelength determines the depth the LED light penetrates your skin layers.

Q. What is the recommended schedule for LED Facials?
A. Depends on the age and condition of your skin. A course of treatments is recommended which, for the majority, consists of two treatments a week for four weeks. However, 1-2 sessions can give skin a ‘pick-me-up’ prior to an important business or social event

Q. How soon can I expect to see results?
A. The skin can look different after just one treatment; smoother and more hydrated with a natural radiant glow.

However, since the treatment is essentially stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms, the most visible results are not immediate.  Instead, results occur gradually over several weeks. With each treatment you will see an improvement.

Results vary from person to person but after a course of treatments clients report an overall improvement of skin tone, clarity and softening of fine lines and wrinkles. The skin continues to improve for 3-6 months after a course of treatments.

Q. Do I need maintenance treatments?

A. Yes. Maintenance treatments are important in order to maintain your visible results. Usually once a month treatment is recommended.

Q. Is LED a good complement to other skincare treatments?

A. Absolutely. It helps to strengthen and rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level so it amplifies the results achieved in any facial treatment.

Q. Can I undergo micro-current while being treated with LED?

A. Yes. They work synergistically to increase collagen and elastin and improve the skin’s circulation. Microcurrent gives you the added benefit of muscle re-education and toning.

Q. Can I put make-up back on immediately?

A. Yes. There is no downtime with this treatment.

Q. Can I go out in the sun after this treatment?

A. Yes – the treatment does not increase photo-sensitivity. We do, however, insist you apply a broad spectrum UVA and UVB sunscreen every day.

Q. Is LED for everyone?

A. Whilst almost everyone can benefit from the use of light therapy, these treatments will have the greatest impact on skin with sluggish metabolism and slow cellular activity showing visible signs of ageing.

Contraindications for light therapy include: pregnancy, epilepsy, medications that cause sensitivity, currently taking steroids/cortisone injections.

What is Dermaplaning?

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will the hair on my face grow back darker and thicker?

A. No, because Dermaplaning only removes vellus hair (peach fuzz) the hair will grow back the same size and colour.

Physiologically this cannot happen so please don’t worry about this.

Q. How often should you have this treatment done?

A. Every 4-6 weeks is the recommend time between treatments. The skin needs time to go through its rejuvenation cycle.

Q. Is it safe?

A. This treatment is extremely safe when performed by an properly trained professional. There is no more risk to the skin than when you shave your legs. There is also no downtime with this procedure.

Q. Does it hurt? Will it cause cuts?

A. Dermaplaning is performed by using a gentle scraping motion across the surface of the skin. With other hair removal methods like waxing and threading these can be painful but Dermaplaning is entirely painless.

There are risks of cuts on the skin, however they are small and very minor as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut.

In the unlikely event you do get a small nik or scrape it should heal within 24-48 hours.
