International Women's Day 8.3.19 #IWD2019
March 8th 2019 is International Women's Day 2019. This day is important for women everywhere, for equality, for supporting one another and this years theme which is better the balance, better the world.
International women’s day began to be observed on March 8th in the early 1900's, the focus then was on the women’s right to vote. This day is now celebrated worldwide each year and encourages us to do everything possible to help forge a more gender-balanced world. Women have come a long way, yet there's still more to be achieved.
So, apart from striking the hands out pose for better balance and posting on your social media (using #BalanceforBetter) what can you do?
Here are some of the pledges from this years campaign:
- I will help forge a more gender balanced world
- I will help forge positive visibility of women
- I will maintain a gender parity mindset
- I will challenge stereotypes and bias
- I will influence the beliefs and actions of others
- I will celebrate women’s achievements
I personally believe that we need to have each other’s backs more, we need to support other women and ultimately raise women up.
All too often especially in the beauty industry women do not show respect for other women in the industry. There can be bitchiness, one up man ship and general negativity.
This is detrimental to the cause and can deeply affect some people’s confidence in their own abilities.
Everyone needs to realise that there are plenty of clients to go around. Our core philosophy should be to support other female business owners and to raise them up!
Praise; reviews; liking and sharing social media posts; being a person that is open and can be approached for advice could be absolutely invaluable for your fellow female beauty business owners.
