Eye 👁 really want to know more ...

I was explaining to a client the other day all the different eyelash treatments we offer at the Tranquility Room MK and the thought occurred to me that we offer so many, it's a bit of a minefield with the amount of treatments now available, so I thought I'd write this blog so you can have a read and it will hopefully help you decide the right treatment for you. If you still have any questions afterwards please contact me.

1. Eyelash Tint

What to expect; An eyelash tint is a short treatment, around 15 minutes.

A patch test is an absolute must at least 24-48 hours before treatment to ensure you do not react to the tint.

We carry out this treatment with you laying down on our comfy couch, your eyelashes are closed throughout, eyes are cleansed and pads placed under your lashes to protect your skin.

The tint is placed on your lashes for up to 10 minutes and then removed. This procedure dyes your eyelashes making them look darker and more prominent. You can wear mascara as well if you want but it is not necessary.

How long does it last? It usually lasts around 4-6 weeks.

Is maintenance required? No just re-book your next appointment for 4- 6 weeks time.

* Often combined with a brow tint and shape as well.

2. Eyelash Lift and Tint

What to expect; An eyelash lift and tint is a longer treatment, around an hour long. A patch test is an absolute must at least 24-48 hours before treatment to ensure you do not react to the lift and tint.

We carry out this treatment with you laying down on our comfy couch, your eyelashes are cleansed and pads placed under your lashes to cover your lower lashes and protect your skin. A shield is then applied to your eyelids and then your lashes will be lifted from the root and the tips stuck to the shield. It is then a four stage treatment.

First the last perming solution is applied to the base of your lashes this stays on for around 12-15 minutes. This is then removed.

Second stage is to apply the setting solution to the base of your lashes, this is then left on for around 12 minutes. This is then removed.

The third stage tint is applied to all your lashes and left for up to 10 minutes so they become nice and dark in colour. This is then removed.

The fourth stage is to apply a nourishing oil for 5 minutes to all your lashes.

The shields are then removed.

Results; your lashes will be lifted and dark, really opening up your eye area. You can still wear mascara on top if you want to look a bit more glam when going out.

How long does it last? It usually lasts around 6-8 weeks.

Is maintenance required? No just re-book your next appointment for 6-8 weeks time.

* Often combined with a brow tint and shape as well to makeover the whole eye area.

3. Party Lashes (Also known as Cluster Lashes or Flare Lashes)

What to expect; This is a relatively quick treatment, around 20 minutes. It is very important to note that these lashes are for very short term use only, 1 night or maybe 2 at the most! This is to protect the health of your natural lashes as they are often quite long and heavy and can be identified by a knot at the end holding the cluster together.

They are designed to be glued using a temporary glue, on top of your lash line (the lashes are not individually isolated as with classic or volume semi-permanent eyelash extensions).

You will be in a seated position with eyes slightly open then the technician will place the lashes across the top of your lash line and then you just need to wait for the glue to dry.

These lashes need to be removed within a couple of days. These should never be applied using semi-permanent lash eyelash glue.

Photo example of different types of lash extensions

For each of the following Individual, Hybrid, Volume Premade or Volume Handmade the process is the same so I will describe that here then discuss each individual type and how its different.

Process; A patch test is required 48 hours prior to first appointment. I always carry out a full consultation at this point to confirm safe for the treatment to go ahead and I take a photo so I can design the style of your lashes that will be applied because each individual is different.

What to expect; We carry out this treatment with you laying down on our comfy couch, your eyelashes are cleansed and pads placed under your lashes to cover your lower lashes and protect your skin. You will be laying still with your eyes closed for between 1.5 hours and 3 hours depending on the lashes you are having. You can have a lash nap, listen to an audiobook or music or I have the radio on in the treatment room.

You are encouraged not to talk to during the treatment because it causes the pads to move and your eyes to twitch which is not what we want.

We do require a very bright lamp that will be turned on once your eyes are closed.

Your lash technician will then start the treatment, each of your natural eyelashes is isolated with one pair of sharp eyelash tweezers whilst the lash extension (whichever type) is applied with a very small amount of glue. I work from one eye to the other and back again but some lash technicians will do this differently and may do all of one eye at a time.

So now you know the basic process I'll just highlight some key things about each style of semi-permanent eyelashes.

4. Individual Classic Eyelash Extensions

What are they? One single eyelash extension is applied to each one of your natural lashes.

How long do these take? Around 1.5 hours depending on how many natural lashes you have.

Is any maintenance required? Yes, to maintain this look you will need to have infill appointments every 2-3 weeks where any outgrown lashes are removed and your lashes are infilled to make them look full again.

Volume fan dimensions

5. Volume or Russian Volume Eyelash Extensions

What are they? A fan of lashes is created by your lash artist using her tweezers and very light weight lashes, this is a highly skilled technique. Depending on the natural lash this can be made out of, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 lashes, you may see this referred to as 3D or 7D this is just related to the number of eyelash extensions within the handmade fan. The fan is then applied to one of your natural lashes using a small amount of glue. Volume lashes give you that fluffy look compared to individual lashes.

How long do these take? This depends on a number of factors, what look you want to achieve, and how many lashes your lash artist can make the fans and apply within your appointment time.

If you want all lashes covered and a very full and dark look then I would suggest you book the 3 hour appointment. If you are happy with medium coverage then I would suggest a 2.5 hour appointment or if you want a light set of volume the a 2 hour set.

Is any maintenance required? Yes, to maintain this look you will need to have infill appointments every 2-3 weeks where any outgrown fans are removed and your lashes are infilled to make them look full again.

Full 3 hour set of Volume Lashes

6. Pre-made Volume Eyelash Extensions

What are they? These are fans made on mass in a factory and supplied in trays, they are heat sealed so they are still very light weight and have improved over the last year or two. They are a lot more expensive to buy but the huge advantage to clients if how much quicker you can create a set of volume lashes.

How long do these take? Around 1.5 -2 hours depending on how many natural lashes you have. I will insert a photo below of a two hour set I created last weekend using a brand new range called pre-jade fans as a test. These could prove very useful if you are unable to lay still for prolonged periods of time. I think they look great but do not create quite as dark set as hand made fans.

Is any maintenance required? Yes, to maintain this look you will need to have infill appointments every 2-3 weeks where any outgrown lashes are removed and your lashes are infilled to make them look full again.

7. Hybrid Eyelash Extensions

What are they? These are a mix of individual lashes and volume fans to create a bit fuller set than individual lashes alone can give you but without the full volume look. Kind of a halfway solution.

How long do these take? Around 1.5 -2 hours depending on how many natural lashes you have.

Is any maintenance required? Yes, to maintain this look you will need to have infill appointments every 2-3 weeks where any outgrown lashes are removed and your lashes are infilled to make them look full again.
